General Public Designs is a design studio based in New Orleans. We design functional objects for public and individual spaces. Our aim is to create smart, unassuming, well designed goods that are deliberate as much as they are playful.
Founder and designer Scott Jarrett grew up in small-town Mississippi. He has an extensive background in art-making, earning a BFA in photography from Delta State University while studying ceramics and sculpture at the University of Alabama, and finally getting his MFA in Sculpture from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Working professionally as a fabricator, Jarrett had the opportunity to learn essential skills, giving him the ability to create clean and well-crafted objects.
After moving to New Orleans in 2012, Jarrett discovered his love for color, and its profound ability to affect mood. After years of practice and iteration, Jarrett founded general public design in 2014. With a life-long appreciation of minimalism paired with a curated eye for color, general public makes furniture, lighting, and home goods that are as easy on the eye as they are to use in your home.
